Theory in the lecture hall, practice in the CoC

Students from the Foundry Institute at RWTH Aachen University visited us again this semester at the HA Center of Competence. As part of their specialization in foundry technology, the excursion focused on the casting design for a steering housing.

From digital model to real casting

In advance, the students developed the moulding system and simulated the casting process on the computer. The forms were then produced at the CoC using the state-of-the-art 3D printing technology and then finished and coated by the students themselves.

The highlight of the day was the casting process: the students were able to cast their components directly on site before holding their finished cast part in their hands.

Sharing knowledge and promoting young talent

Our colleague David Hein also gave the students valuable insights into the subject of coating. The visit ended with a relaxed dinner, where the exchange between students and our colleagues was further deepened.

The excursion to the CoC has been an integral part of the study program for many years and also offers our employees the opportunity to exchange ideas with young scientists.

We look forward to welcoming many dedicated students to our company in the future and introducing them to the foundry industry!
