Field experience report

Working student Maxine talks about her experiences at Hüttenes-Albertus.

Maxine Kenny is a student at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and is completing her Master's degree in Business Chemistry. She is a working student in the Regional Development, Strategy and M&A department at HA's administrative office in Düsseldorf-Heerdt. In this interview, she talks about her activities and experiences at HA:

Maxine, what exactly are your tasks at HA?

My tasks include analyzing the global market and competition for foundry-chemical products. The strategic projects I work on involve both HA GmbH and the international subsidiaries, which makes my work very varied. I also work intensively on the analysis of market and company data and the use of corresponding evaluation and visualization tools. Among other things, I got to know Think-Cell, a PowerPoint add-in for the analysis and professional visualization of data. After a short time, I had the opportunity to train our American colleagues from HA International in Think-Cell in a workshop.

Why did you decide to work as a student trainee at HA?

During my course, I have mainly been able to gain practical experience in the laboratory. Now at HA, I have the opportunity to explore and apply the link between business and chemistry in practice. I can find many theoretical concepts from my lectures in my day-to-day work and can often implement them directly. I work with many different departments and this gives me a realistic insight into the wide range of opportunities available to me after my Master's degree. I also really like the fact that I have the chance to make lots of contacts in the industry. This means I'm not jumping in at the deep end after my studies and can start my professional future as well prepared as possible.

How do you like it at Hüttenes-Albertus?

I feel very comfortable at HA because there is a family atmosphere and a low hierarchy. The relationship between colleagues is friendly and the working atmosphere is very pleasant. I also really like the modern administration building!

Thank you very much for the interview Maxine - we are delighted that you are part of the HA family! We hope you continue to enjoy your work and wish you every success with your studies.
