First Iron Casting Forum with HA and MAGMA

On November 12 and 13, HA and MAGMA Gießereitechnologie GmbH held their first joint Iron Casting Forum. The aim was to create a new platform that offers more than just a traditional lecture program. Participants from foundries, associations, suppliers, and the binder industry exchanged ideas on current challenges, new technologies, and joint solutions for the future of the German foundry industry.

A diverse program

The first day began with a series of specialist presentations before moving on to the interactive “Ideas Forum.” Participants were able to attend two workshops at each of five stations. The focus was on the following topics:

  • BREF (Best Available Techniques Reference Document)
  • Gigacasting in sand casting
  • Sand regeneration
  • Thermal analysis & simulation: Two worlds?
  • Ecology and economy in core production

The focus was on an open exchange about shortcomings, possible improvements, and previously untapped potential. The results from the individual stations then provided a basis for a lively and valuable exchange.

On the second day, participants benefited from further presentations and open discussions that underscored the desire to find joint solutions within the industry.

Frank Iden, Head of Product and Application Management, summarizes his impressions as follows: 'There were inspiring presentations, great discussions, and above all, a very open approach to current problems and possible solutions. There were also controversial discussions, but within the group of participants there was still a clear goal: efficient solutions must be found for the German foundry industry. And we must work together as partners—foundries, associations, plant manufacturers, and binder manufacturers. Overall, it was a great new platform with positive feedback.'
