Developments in iron casting

Series use of inorganic binders

The challenges of our time make the responsible use of natural resources and environmentally friendly production an increasingly urgent task. The very good experience gained in the use of inorganic cores in aluminum casting therefore aroused the interest of iron casters some time ago who also want to use the emission-free technology in their series production.

However, the significantly different casting conditions in iron casting present the developers of an inorganic binder system with the major task of exploiting the known advantages of inorganics while at the same time overcoming the special hurdles in iron casting.

Facts

Basic data on the demonstrator for developments in iron casting:

  • Weight of base core: approx. 21kg
  • Weight of casting: approx. 25kg
  • Weight of channel cores: 0.5 - 1kg
  • Quartz sand H32, 2.20 % Cordis + 1.15 % Anorgite
  • Water-based coating
